USPS Operation Santa – Santa Ana District Office
Operation Santa kicks off at the Santa Ana USPS District Office in Santa Ana, CA on Tuesday, December 6th, 2011.
For generations, writing a letter to Santa Claus has been a tradition during the holidays. And for some kind-hearted folks, answering those letters has also been a holiday custom.
Back in 1912, Postmaster General Frank Hitchcock authorized postal employees and local citizens to respond to the many letters written to Santa. The goodwill program, known as Operation Santa, has changed over the years. In the 1940’s, mail volume for Santa grew so much that the Postal Service invited local businesses and charitable organizations to participate by providing written responses and small gifts.
- You must visit the post office in person and present a valid state of federal ID. You will be required to fill out a short form. If you are a representative of a company or organization please present an introduction on company letterhead and a valid ID.
- Participants are provided a copy of the Santa letter of their choice, which is coded and has had personal information removed. When they return to the Post Office to mail a gift package to fulfill the wish of the Santa letter writer, the Postal Service will match the coded photocopy Santa letter with the original and apply the name and address to the item.
- Participants in Operation Santa are responsible for all wrapping of gifts and postage.

Considering that Santa Ana has such a large population of illegal immigrants, I find it hysterical that DONORS have to provide a valid “state of federal ID” in order to give to ILLEGALS who already receive free education, free food, free housing and free health care. I’d better grab my U.S. Passport and run right down to Santa Ana … not!
